Where were you in the Summer of 1977? To be precise, where were you in August of 1977? Perhaps right here in Avalon? Then you might find someone that you know in the photos to the left. Maybe even you! In the midst of their renovation last fall, the Princeton uncovered a time capsule of sorts. Back in the 1970’s the Princeton took photos of patrons as well as scenes from around town and then projected them nightly on the walls of the Rock Room. It was Phil Matalucci’s idea – and a good one.“ People Loved to see themselves up on the wall,” remembers Phil. Thankfully, some of those great photos were neatly packed away in a storage area in the “Little P”. So thanks Liz Tracy and Scoot Zurawski and the new Princeton, we’re taking you back to the Summer of ’77. We’ve also added some newspaper ads from that same month – all from places that no longer exist. We hope that you enjoy looking back. So…whatever happened to the Avalon Pizza, Phil’s Deli, The Sandpiper, Sullivan’s, Lowell’s 21st Street Market, Weatherby’s Wharf, Keen’s Pharmacy, the Oasis and Buckley’s Arcade? By the way, we’d love to hear from you if you have any special memories that you’d like to share. And we’d especially like to hear from you if you know any of the people in these photos to the left. –email us: info@7milepublishing.com.

Was The Skim Board Invented on the Seven Mile Beach?
I am submitting this as my claim to fame relative to the origin and birth of the skim board. I offer the following, which I wrote in my autobiography in the 1950’s, as evidence that I am not now inventing the story. The original setting was in Avalon, which as you know, is located on the Seven Mile Beach. That’s where I was born and where I lived as a year ‘round resident for all of my young life...
